The Veligandu Island Resort is probably one of the most unique resorts in the Maldives; it is essentially a sandbar covered with some vegetation. In fact, the island keeps growing thanks to the calm current that keeps depositing sand around the shores. A small number of water bungalows now step down on its own private beach thank to this current.
You can only get to Veligandu Island via sea plane. It takes approximately twenty minutes to reach the island by this method, and although it may seem like a hassle, repeat visitors claim it is worth every minute. The unique "L" shaped beach offers constant sun creating a paradise for sun tanners. There is also a beautiful protected lagoon for water sports and swimming. The atmosphere at Veligandu is very laid back in a shoes-off kind of way. It allows for much relaxation and stress relief!
Great staff, great fun
The staff of Veligandu Island has actually remained virtually unchanged since it opened some years ago. The management takes pride in running an excellent resort, which really shows with their treatment of the guests. In fact, most of the guests who go on holidays to Veligandu are return visitors who spend every holiday at this resort.
There is much to do in terms of activities, such as snorkelling and diving. In fact, diving is very popular due to the diving school that is available on the island. Madivaru is the name of a nearby dive point where divers can view hammerhead sharks in their natural territory. Veligandu has become a haven for divers due to the many different dive spots available in the surrounding area. Snorkelling is not as popular as diving but still offers great rewards. There is also a manager completely responsible for evening entertainment to ensure a wonderful night life.
The rooms and meals and more
There are many different rooms, including a selection of water bungalows, which are offered at Velinandu. They are essentially very similar except for minor changes in size and amenities depending on the declaration of "standard" or "deluxe." All rooms, however, are very clean and offer simple things like a mirror, telephone, hot and cold water and a mini bar.
Veligandu Island takes great pride in their food and offers buffet meals with great gourmet selections. Special brown bread is even baked every morning with flour imported from Germany. The restaurant, which also contains a bar, coffee shop, dance floor and sundeck, is decorated in natural colors and materials like wood, thatch and coral. The atmosphere is very laid back.
The unique Veligandu Island Resort is perfect for a honeymoon holiday or a family holiday. There are many different activities offered, the facilities are above average and the food is excellent!
