Summer Island Village

Formally known as Ziyaaraifushi, this island was a German diving paradise. With new owners and new name, Summer Island Village, the resort looks to continue with its rich heritage of diving while catering to those who want other things from a holiday in the Maldives. The island does not have the best beaches or the best snorkelling, but it does offer the absolute best diving in the Maldives. The beaches, of course, are beautiful and worthy of any holiday, but simply do not measure up to other beaches in the country.

Summer Island Village has become fully all inclusive, which includes a lot of different activities and meals. The switch to all inclusive holidays has discouraged some regular divers but helped with bringing in other types of tourists. Summer Island Village hopes to keep improving its beaches and rooms to have even more to offer to the casual tourist in the future so updates are being made.

The famous diving at Summer Island

It is safe to say that most visitors come to Summer Island Village to dive. The owners of the diving school have been on this island making the same dives for eighteen years so they have a plethora of experience and helpful hints to share. Groups are large, and the dive areas are usually crowded but the experience is still unforgettable. There are actually over forty different areas suitable for diving with boat trips to central locations where divers can reach them all every day.

Even though the switch to all inclusive holidays has slowed the influx of divers, groups are still large and trips are made every day. Aside from diving, boat trips are made to six different snorkelling spots that are near in proximity each day. Water sports are terrifically popular and all forms are offered.

An all inclusive resort holiday

The words all inclusive sometimes make travellers to the Maldives shudder because there is a tendency to think that they will not be getting a deal. At Summer Island Village they are getting a maldives holiday deal!

Included is one day trip around nearby islands (inhabited and uninhabited), one night trip to do deep sea fishing and a couple snorkelling trips a day! The meals are served buffet style and offer a different theme each night. There are sometimes lobster feasts on the beach that cost an extra 15 pounds, but they are not required to be attended although the food is excellent. The rooms are all similar and have the basics but are not filled with luxurious extras.

Summer Island Village is trying to change their reputation from a rough, unkempt diving island to a real Maldivian resort. With constant upgrades and changes, Summer Island Village is a resort that will keep any guest busy and satisfied!
