Reethi Beach Resort

Reethi Beach Resort

The Reethi Beach Resort is unique from many of the other Maldivian island resorts in that it is said to possess a “local island feel.” This small island has become a very popular holiday spot since the time of the resort’s opening, but many of the natural aspects of the island’s geography have been left untouched. While several other resorts have been commercialised and made accessible to hundreds of visitors at a time, the Reethi Beach Resort is truly an escape from the busier side of life.

The long, narrow island runs north to south with a large beach that meets with the neighbouring Atoll. It has been perfectly preserved in its natural condition, with fine cream colored sand and no groynes or wall. The island’s vegetation extends all the way to the water in some places, creating small coves and private stretches of beach. The fine sand bed extends well into the lagoon, making it an enjoyable place to sit and wade in the warm, shallow ocean. On the opposite side of the island is pitted coral reef that drops away into the Indian Ocean to create some truly beautiful diving locales. Extending into the water over the coral is a coffee shop and many water bungalows.

Water activities at Reethi

If you stay at the Reethi Beach Resort, you will most likely find yourself spending a great deal of time in the surrounding waters. There is a sandy bottomed lagoon surrounding the entire island that extends quite far offshore, making for great swimming and water sports. A popular activity for beginners and more experienced visitors to Reethi is windsurfing. Although snorkelling is not one of the most popular activities in the waters of Reethi Beach, the fantastic diving opportunities make up for it. The channel to the north of the island is renowned among divers in the Maldives and includes the Makunudhoo Kandu, a protected marine area literally teeming with aquatic life. The highlight of the Reethi Beach resort is undoubtedly the clear waters and extensive natural powder white sand beach.

Rooms and facilities

The Reethi Beach Resort was originally constructed in the 70’s, and it has aged well from that time. The resort area itself is small and well maintained, with an experienced staff who cater wonderfully to the needs of the visitors. A bar and all purpose restaurant provide for all of the island’s guests and naturally offer only the best in local Maldivian dishes.

There are fifty beach rooms and ten water bungalows available. The water bungalows come at a slightly steeper price, but are quite obviously closer to the water and are newer than the beach bungalows. Decorated in a simple fashion to reflect the mood of the island, each bungalow is still outfitted with common amenities such as a telephone and fridge. The vegetation above the resort housing is rather dense and provides a cool and shady atmosphere if the beach gets too hot. Paths through the resort are lined with lilies that add a nice touch to the quaint atmosphere. The Reethi Beach Resort is a fantastic getaway location and offers the best for holidaymakers looking for peace and relaxation!
